Subclass 189 Invitation Round Outcome: 7 November 2024

A total of 15,000 Expressions of Interest (EOI) were issued invitations through SkillSelect to apply for a Skilled Independent (Subclass 189) visa on 7 November 2024. This was almost twice the number of 7,973 invitations which were issued on the 5 September 2024 invitation round.

In the most recent 7 November 2024 invitation round, “popular” occupations such as Accountant (General), Computer Network and Systems Engineer, Developer Programmer, ICT Business analyst, ICT Security Specialist and Software Engineer were invited at 95 points. On the other hand, “in-demand” occupations such as Bricklayer, Cabinetmaker, Carpenter, Carpenter and Joiner, Electrician (General), Fibrous Plasterer, Lift Mechanic, Painting Trades Worker, Plumber (General) and Wall and Floor Tiler were invited at just 65 points. Various other construction-related occupations as well as Early Childhood (Pre-primary School) Teacher, Midwife, Registered Nurse (Aged Care), Registered Nurse (Critical Care and Emergency), Registered Nurse (Medical), Registered Nurse (Paediatrics), Registered Nurses nec, Secondary School Teacher, Social Worker and Special Needs Teacher were invited at 70 points.

Going forward, it is likely that the Department will continue to prioritise construction, healthcare, teaching and social services occupations. Noting how competitive the Subclass 189 visa EOI process can be, all prospective migrants are encouraged to explore other general skilled migration and employer-sponsored visa options they may have, including the Skilled Nominated (Subclass 190) visa, the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (Subclass 491) visa, the Temporary Skill Shortage (Subclass 482) visa, the Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) visa and the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) (Subclass 494) visa, as well as the upcoming Skills in Demand visa which will reportedly be replacing the current Subclass 482 visa by the end of 2024.
