Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) to be increased to $73,150
From 1 July 2024, the Australian Government will be increasing the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) to $73,150 per annum.
This means that for all employer-sponsored applications lodged after 1 July 2024, relevantly nomination applications in the Temporary Skill Shortage (Subclass 482) Visa Program, the Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) Visa Program and the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) (Subclass 494) Visa Program, the proposed salary for nominated positions must be at least AUD$73,150 per annum, unless concessions apply in the Labour Agreement stream.
Does this affect applications that have been lodged but are still being processed after 1 July 2024?
The upcoming increase to the TSMIT will only apply from 1 July 2024 onward and will therefore not affect applications lodged before 1 July 2024, even if they are still being processed on 1 July 2024. Applications lodged prior to 1 July 2024 (and from 1 July 2023 onward) must nonetheless still meet the current TSMIT of AUD$70,000 per annum (with limited exceptions).
My employer has agreed to sponsor me but is paying me less than $73,150 per year, what should I do?
If you are presently in the process of preparing a Subclass 482 Visa, Subclass 186 Visa or Subclass 494 Visa and believe that your employer may encounter difficulties with meeting the increased TSMIT of AUD$73,150, you should ensure that your employer’s nomination application is lodged as soon as practicable prior to 1 July 2024.
