Pacific Island and Timor-Leste international students eligible for partial refunds

From 1 July 2024, eligible Pacific Island and Timor-Leste citizens who have lodged a Student (Subclass 500) Visa or Student Guardian (Subclass 590) Visa application can claim a refund for part of their visa application charge.

You are eligible for a partial refund if the primary applicant holds a valid passport issued by one of the following countries at the time you request a refund:

  • Fiji

  • Kiribati

  • Marshall Islands

  • Micronesia

  • Nauru

  • Palau

  • Papua New Guinea

  • Samoa

  • Solomon Islands

  • Timor-Leste

  • Tonga

  • Tuvalu

  • Vanuatu

You can request a partial refund any time after you lodge your application by following these steps:

  1. Login to your ImmiAccount

  2. From the 'My Payments' drop-down tab, select 'Manage Payments'

    • Previous payments and their status will be displayed

    • If the payment status in ImmiAccount is 'Credit' or ‘Paid’ a refund can be requested.

  3. From the actions menu, select the 'Request Refund' option.

    • A new screen will display that allows you to begin your refund request.

  4. For ‘Refund reason’ select ‘Pacific or Timor-Leste Student’

The Department of Home Affairs will then refund the payment to the same account used for the original payment of the visa application charge.
